Had a big 'ol bunch of new old gold today. Really exciting to look at it from afar. The kind of pile you hope to see when you walk in.

A half-dozen $20s in photo certs from smoe place I'd never heard of, maybe 4 of the old ANACS photocerts of the same. But then I saw that they were uber common dates. Except for the 1865-S that was graded MS60 but what looked 55. Greyish toned skin and zero luster.

One or two smaller gold photocerts. One a $5 indian that looked nice but had a big chunk out of his cheek.

An 1834 half eagles but it was kinda dull like an old cleaning, too. XF net VF.

And two 5 roubles in NGC fatties. 65 and 66, IIRC. Those are cool, but they're common as dirt. Must have been one of the first big NGC mass grading events, because I bet there are thousands still in first generation NGC fatties out there. I just scanned eBay and stopped counting at 20 of the soap bar fatties, to say nothing of the next generation NGC holders.

For once, the dealer was acting like this was all super premium stuff. Like we weren't worthy to look at it.

Given the gush of low grade MS saints and libs out there, none of it was anything other than bullion.

He did have a full roll of stunning, pristine 1879-S Morgans. But those went to the first guy to check 'em out. Apparently most were 65s, and a couple might have been better.

Au contraire, mon frere. He has entered the sphere of exotica and that's all that we want to see in the future.

He HAS a "Pine Tree" and that puts him in the rarified class of people we expect a lot out of.

I don't feel I'm lacking anything that I truly want in numismatics, save for a Pan Pac octagon. That's a $100,000 coin all day.

I'm good.

However, I could go for a 1907 $10 Indian Wire Edge companion piece.
