Grapes are usually at their best when on sale as that is when the retailer brings in truckloads and they don't sit on the counter and get mushy.

Not today gentleman. Mushy and brown. Yuck. I passed.

They did have pineapples though.

You could have gotten grape nuts.

grapes are a seldom-seen luxury in my home. Usually $3+ per pound!

smoe of the most interesting 'grapes' are the ones left on the vine that basically bake in the sun every day until they are way drier than your storebought raisin. wine grapes. these are pretty cool things to eat, but you can't eat very many; they are quite hard. And full of interesting flavor. not for sale. you have to go find a plant in the late season. and generally speaking, the farmers don't mind, as these dry grapes are worthless to them.

Dingleberries are having a good season this year.
I like them with some Metamucil sauce.

Finding large ones is tough but they're around in the early mornings.

im just burned out on grapes.

i think in california there may be more grapes than there is water, air or land.

theres a lot of rich people in california. theres a lot of land in the low coastal mountains.
there is no shortage of speculators taking some of the most ridiculous and otherwise unusable land, clearing a few super steep acres for some of the most unlikely and terrible grape plants, with a gigantic mansion in the center.
its a thing you can spend a lot of money on.

Pendleton Estate is a shining example of this.
http://pendletonwines.com
You know those little bobcat tractors. you cannot help but roll that sucker all the way down the hill on this plot.

And then there is Monster House. Also called Mountain House Estate.
http://mountainhouseestate.com
On about 30 acres. I think the sales price years ago was over eight million. The first developer made a gigantic out of place structure, lots of satellite structures, dug a pond and then let it all go to hell. It's been repurchased and updated. But good lord.
Money sump.

Then there is Maple Creek Winery. It's been there for a while, but has also gone though many owners. This is a good winery for a goat getting on top of your car and eating the windshield wiper blades.

There are many success stories in the county. There are many more stories of retirees blowing their wad.

That is plain STUPID.

My buddy's family raised red globes. ONE would fill your mouth with ecstasy.
And not in a queer way.

Had to get em at dove season when I went there to kill birds.

The entire crop would always go straight to Japan. Them Nips will PAY!
