i either get to join a team that is dying. i would get paid well, i know what i am doing. it is a dead end. i would be bored and restless.

or i get to join a new team that has no direction. i would get paid well, i don't know what i am doing. it is a dead end. i would be bored and restless.

or i get to retire at 49. i would be bored and restless.

lots of people would like to be in this situation. i don't. i'll need days to ponder the pros and cons.

Adam, you have been in the game too long. Anything you do with the current employer will leave you bored and restless. Without OFR breaks a couple times a day the tedium would be unbearable.

Nothing more invigorating that your own modest start up. If you have never done so and are in a position to do so, give it a try.

I say retire at 49 and do what you want to do.
I plan on retiring at 53 and doing what I have wanted to do for years.

With my retirement income I won't have to make much to be where I'm at now.
No need to die at a job you don't like if you don't have to.

You only live once.

If it doesn't work out you could always move to Sacramento and get free food, housing and cars.

That is dumb.

WORKING is the means AND the end.

Dropping dead at the job is honorable and everyone will respect you at your funeral.

And they won't say you died a bum.

i guess if i'm not ready to retire, i can do the thing i know how to do, get paid, and seek out a better team.

joining a team that has no idea what it is doing seems like a Bad Idea.

leaving is a permanent decision. I doubt i will be able to come back if i leave.

i will take the weekend to ponder this

i always figured i'd retire when i lost my mind, like rollo. seems too early.

well i picked the easiest and laziest way forward.

i get to fix security holes. i bet the NSA has a codebook on this sucker, too. sure of it.

id like to see it but they would not let me because i would seal up the holes.

so, the next three years or so my future is relatively assured. mroe of the smae.

If I were you I'd get into the burgeoning pot industry. Use toady frog urine as your secret super fertilizer ingredient.

frog urine is extremely dilute and will have to be distilled and concentrated.

cat urine on the other hand seems plenty strong as is.

There was never a fork in the road. Just two gravy ladles.
