How do I adjust the bass?

There's likely to be an adjustment in whatever program you're using to play the audio. Also check control panel>hardware and sound. Whether there's an adjuster there or not depends on what drivers are installed.

If you're not getting enough bass it's probably because speakers on all laptops are kind of sucky. Just go to any retailer that has computer stuff and you can pick up good external speakers for like 60 bucks or so, they just plug into the headphone jack. Obviously, you can't use them when you're on the go.

It has a wifi card built in so you should be able to connect at McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.

Otherwise you can get an aircard from AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. Beware, they're all $60/Month and they all come with a 5 Gig limit, go over and there are HUGE overage charges. You'll also be signing a 2-year agreement to get the hardware for free. I recommend going to a corporate store and buying the device outright (about $200) and then signing up without signing a contract (the purpose of signing contracts is to get your hardware subsidized, so if you're buying it outright you don't need to sign a contract). That's about what an early term fee costs however, if you're contractless you have a lot more leeway when dealing with customer service because you can cancel at any time and they can't hold the fee over your head.

AT&T and Verizon have great coverage, but Sprint has faster speeds. You won't get any discount for already having a phone with one company or another, so it doesn't matter who you sign with. However, you may get a better discount with a specific company, ask for a discount based on who your employer is.

do all McDonald's have WiFi? I take my daughter to a McD "play place" about once a week. It would certainly give me something to do.

Not all do but most. In most cases you'll have to either pay to get on, or be an AT&T landline or wireless customer in which case you get free access.

Keep an eye on the Dell outlet website, and check their coupons. They are heavy discounters.
