System restore doesn't work. It was screwed up before the virus hit. it shows up as an ordinary Windows update.

It's hard to get rid of without help from Microsoft.

Try Malwarebytes. I have the full version that scans once a day.

It has reduced my computer problems greatly. In fact, I don't think I've had anything since installing.
It blocked that ransomware thing from a couple months ago.

If you try to open FireFox browser, it opens a wordpad window with a bunch of gobbledygook in it. If you download Malwarebytes thru Avast SafeZone browser, the download opens as Windows Media Center. The Windows Media Center can't be deleted or disabled thru the Control Panel. So boom yer fuct!
