The ad virus pops up predominately on this site and yahoo and other travel sites. When I click on a thread e.g., it forwards and opens at another window while the previous window goes ad-crazy. Suggestions?

And no, no porn trolling.

Did it install itself as an add-in? If you go to your browser's add-in manager, you might be able to easily delete it.

FWIW, prompts to update Flash are ALWAYS malware. Never click on them.

do you run a backup program like Time Machine? Restore your machine to a point in time before you installed the malware.

Other than that, there's a zillion kinds of malware packages out there. Instructions for removing them vary.

To be safe, I recommend that you burn your computer immediately with fire.

you can try what most folks recommend...'malwarebytes for mac'.

but i'd recommend being safe and going the fire route.

good to know that malwarebytes has a mac version. I use it for my pc and am quite pleased with its performance. Been thinking mac when this thing dies (hopefully, BEFORE it dies)

Thx comrades.

I've never had problems with malware...been Mac since 1986. So I feel like dumb-ass.

Adam, thx but I thought that's what a firewall was for.

Flam, I had to click on the icon. It looked good but I had a feeling it was elmo. I looked for the "add-on" in my browser, no joy. Maybe Safari calls it smoething different.

Thx adam. I downloaded malwarebytes, then I get a cool guy pop up saying I cannot install because it was not from the Mac App store. Arsschlochen.

Go to Settings > Security & Privacy; change to "App Store and identified developers".

If that doesn't work, try right-clicking on the installer and choose "Open" -- sometimes that circumvents the Apple police.

isn't it nice how the virus got around that Elmo whereas a regular app cannot.

In order to get my work done, I have to turn almost all of the security stuff off. Developer machines are amongst the most vulnerable.

I ran smoe anti-virus apps off of Apples site. It found over 300 infections. Cleared them but the problem was still there, but not as bad. I decided to go to Apple this morning at Ala Moana. I needed to get this fixed before I go back to work. The tech was my age. Cool guy, I mean a really nice guy. He fixed the problem, gave me smoe tips and what to watch for. Axed how much, he shakes my hand and says have a nice day. Kool beans.

you probably run some sort of application that is mission critical in the sense that it tells you how to configure your plane for smoething.

a virus in this case could crash more than a computer.

now, why you need an app for that I don't know. should all be built in.

"manual control" it is to laugh

a faithful simulation perhaps. until the computers decide not.
