A new thing for me since i'm a city dweller.

There are plenty of 'farms' around, but this one is sort of a boutique; they grow fancy apples and do cooking classes. Full on yuppies-who-want-to-be-organic time.

Had my first taste of real butter, made the old school way from an actual cow that was grass fed in a primo field.
Yow.
First taste of real cream too.

The butter was orange; looked like cheese. Absolutely fantastic.

Sort of a life changing experience. I hate the modern milk industry. But, also, i'd probably find it hard to milk a cow twice a day. There's a lot of process involved with converting cow milk into the various things it makes. But damn, you eat well if you've got one!!!

We've got one dairy farm left in the county. I'm talking just 4 or 5 freshened at any one time tops. My daughter works there and has a shorthorn that she shows at 4h. Since there's not enough participants to make a category, she has to show it with the beef stock so it never wins. Still a good time and good experience.

Which I had a small farm. Great to be self sustaining.
